While dining opportunities probably aren't the first thing that springs to mind at the thought of Washington, D.C., the city is an excellent place for culinary students to study and chefs and other professionals to enjoy an excellent career. The capital plays host to top-rung signature restaurants and national chains as well. The city hosts more than 20 million world visitors each year, so its international cuisine is outstanding, including such rarities as Malaysian, Salvadorian, Burmese, and many more. Washingtonians spend more of their food dollar dining out than any other group in the U.S. This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, considering that if “wining and dining” is done anywhere, it's done more in D.C.
